Finishing up the summer reading

I finally finished The Long Embrace, a biography of Raymond Chandler. It got slow and I put it aside, but it finished with a bang and I am glad I stuck with it. Lush Life is fabulous, by the author of Clockers. The dialogue is riveting. The Magician's Assistant and Breath are recommended as wonderful, quick reads that provoke thought on issues of the heart. Last Train to Paradise is non-fiction featuring many of my favorite subjects: robber barons, The Gilded Age and hurricanes and natural disasters.
